In the frame of the Hungarian Presidency of the Visegrád Group (V4), the meeting of the committees on agriculture of the Parliaments of the Visegrád Countries took place in Budapest between 27-28 November 2025. The event, which was hosted by Sándor Font, Chairman of the Committee on Agriculture of the Hungarian National Assembly, focused on two topics: 1) Proposal for the new Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF) for 2028–2034 and the Common Agricultural Policy after 2027; 2) The impact of the EU-Mercosur agreement and of Ukraine's possible accession to the European Union on European agriculture, with particular regard to the competitiveness of frontline countries.
The meeting was attended by Ivan Ševčík, Chairman of the Agricultural and Environmental Committee of the Slovak National Council, Petr Fiala, Vice-Chair of the Committee on National Economy, Agriculture and Transport of the Czech Senate, as well as Mirosław Maliszewski, Chairman of the Committee on Agriculture and Rural Development, and Kazimierz Gwiazdowski, Vice-Chairman of the Committee on Agriculture and Rural Development of the Polish Sejm.
On the first topic, the opening speech was given by József Viski, State Secretary responsible for agricultural and rural development subsidies of the Ministry of Agriculture. On the second topic Imre Hubai, State Secretary for Agriculture of the Ministry of Agriculture, gave the introductory presentation.
During the meeting, Sándor Font emphasized his view that cooperation based on mutual trust, as well as shared traditions and values, offers the Visegrád countries an opportunity to shape the future of Europe. He also expressed his hope that a common European solution could be found to the problems of the agricultural market, which takes into account the increased burdens on the most affected countries in the region, the interests of farmers, and ensures genuine burden-sharing at EU level.
The representatives of the committees on agriculture of the Parliaments of the Visegrád Countries agreed on the need to maintain the two-pillar structure of the Common Agricultural Policy, and to take into account the specific characteristics of the Member States. They emphasized the importance of competitiveness and security in agriculture.
They expressed their concern about the signing of the EU-Mercosur agreement in its current form. Furthermore, they discussed the impacts of Ukraine's possible accession to the European Union on the agricultural markets of the region, among many other policy issues.
