The Hungarian National Assembly adopted a political declaration „On the 30th anniversary of the establishment of the Visegrád Cooperation” on 15. February 2021.


The Hungarian National Assembly adopted a solemn political declaration „On the 30th anniversary of the establishment of the Visegrád Cooperation” on 15. February 2021. In the statement, the National Assembly expresses its appreciation and deep gratitude for the beginning of the co-operation on 15. February 1991 and for the fulfilment of European and Euro-Atlantic integration. It commends the role of the parliamentary dimension of cooperation and, paying tribute to the achievements of our countries, societies and parliaments, declares that it will continue its efforts aimed at integrating and developing the communities of the Visegrad countries.
Zsolt Németh, the Chairman of the Committee on Foreign Affairs, presented the proposal for the political statement „On the 30th anniversary of the establishment of the Visegrád Cooperation” in the joint debate. In his contribution, he alluded to the prestigious 685-year-old history of Visegrád cooperation, dating back to 1335, and stated that the challenge and mission set out in the text of the 1991 Visegrád Treaty remains valid in 2021: “We are determined to face the tasks ahead and – basing our endeavours on our shared historical traditions - to do our utmost for the peace, security and progress of our nations, in harmony with traditional European values and key processes. "
In his contribution, Tamás Vargha, State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade said that the Ministry fully supported the adoption of the declaration. The Principal of the National Assembly dr. Márta Mátrai took the floor as the rapporteur of the Committee on Legislation commended the role of the Visegrád Cooperation and the anniversary, with the representatives of the parliamentary groups as well as individual MPs also joining in the praise in their speeches.  
The political declaration was adopted with unanimous support in the National Assembly (1 abstention).
